The Yankees couldn’t get anything going in their 5-1 loss to the Royals on Saturday night. Royals starter Felipe Paulino pitched very well in his season debut. He went six innings gave up no runs on four hits and struck out six. He was perfect through the first 3 2/3 before he finally allowed a base runner; a walk to Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees provided no run support for Hiroki Kuroda who went 4 1/3 gave up three runs on six hits and earned a loss putting him at 2-4 for the season.

The Royals wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. Kansas City slugger Billy Butler ripped a two run double to left scoring Jarrod Dyson and Alex Gordon.  In the bottom of the fifth inning it was Billy Butler at it again with another RBI double putting the Royals on top 3-0. In the sixth inning the Royals would add two more runs thanks to a Jarrod Dyson RBI sac-fly and an Alex Gordon RBI double.  Alex Gordon finished with four hits, two runs scored and a RBI.

The Yankees only run came from a Russell Martin solo home run in the seventh inning off of Royals reliever Jose Mijares. It was Martin’s third of the year. Martin was the only Yankee hitting well finishing the game 3-4.

The Yankees will meet the Royals again Sunday afternoon. Phil Hughes gets the start for the Yanks while Luke Hochevar goes for Kansas City. Pregame starts at 1:30, first pitch at 2:10 right here on 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio.
