The Yankees edged the Chicago Cubs 4-3 on Saturday thanks to a big play at home plate by Russell Martin.

Russell Martin took a big hit from Carlos Pena in the 6th inning at home plate.  His effort would keep the Cubs down that one important run that would give the Yankees the eventual win, 4-3.

After losing on Friday afternoon it was important that the Yanks came away with a win on Saturday.  The Red Sox were the opposite.  They won on Friday against the Brewers, but lost on Saturday so the Yankees are still 1.5 games back of first in the AL East.

Yanks had 11 hits to Chicago's 6 yesterday, and that really was the difference.  Eduardo Nunez continues to be a welcomed addition to the team, he goes 2-4 with an RBI.  Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson continue to perform as well.  They were both 2-3 with an RBI.  So the Yankee bats are working, but it would be nice to see another on of those multi-homer games sometime soon.  The batting lineup is proving to be the difference maker for the Yankees as pitching gets the job done, but is struggling.

AJ Burnett picks up the win yesterday, he goes just over 5 innings and allows 2 runs on 4 hits and also had 8 strike outs.  The bullpen would keep Chicago at bay to bring in Mariano Rivera at the end.  Mo gives up one run in the bottom of the ninth but is able to coem away with his 17th save of the season.

Yanks and Cubs play again tonight at 8pm.
