Through the first six innings, everything was going just fine for the Yankees. Then suddenly, in the top of the seventh the whole game unraveled.

The O’s got a go ahead three run home run by J.J. Hardy and another 3 run homer by Adam Jones in a seven run seventh inning that turned a 3-0 Yankees lead into a 7-3 Yankees loss on an overcast afternoon in the Bronx. The homers, one off Shawn Kelley and the other off Joba Chamberlain, spoiled a strong outing by Andy Pettite, who was charged with two earned runs over six innings of work.

The Yankees were going for the home sweep of Baltimore, which would have left them in front of the O’s in the race for the final Wild Card spot. With the loss the Yankees fall to four games behind division rival Tampa Bay with 26 games remaining on the schedule.
