The Los Angeles Angels (26-25) beat the Yankees (26-23) for the second night in a row 5-1. Angels starter Dan Haren had a great outing against a recently hot Yankees lineup.  Haren went seven innings gave up one run on eight hits and struck out seven. The Yankees gathered nine hits in all but only a Nick Swisher RBI single in the fourth inning would score a run.

Andy Pettitte pitched seven innings gave up five runs on nine hits and struck out three. The loss put Pettitte at 2-2 with a 3.49 ERA on the season.

The Angels got on the board in the third inning. Peter Bourjos led off with single and Mike Trout brought him in with a triple later in the inning putting the Angels on top 1-0. Two batters later, Albert Pujols belted a two run home run to left field making the score 3-0. Pujols now has eight home runs and 28 RBI on the season.

In the sixth inning a long Mark Trumbo solo home run to center field estimated at 440 feet put the Angels up 4-1. Trumbo now has 9 home runs.

In the eighth inning Howie Kendrick drove in Albert Pujols to put the Angels up 5-1.

The Yankees loaded the bases in the ninth off of Angels reliever Ernesto Frieri with the tying run, Robinson Cano at the plate. Cano struck out on three pitches and finished the game 0-5.

Alex Rodriguez finished the game 3-4 bumping his average up to .287. Derek Jeter had a pair of base hits keeping his average at a healthy .338.

The Yankees will try to avoid the series sweep tomorrow. Ivan Nova (5-2 5.46) starts for the Yankees while Ervin Santana (2-6 4.45) goes for the Angels. Pregame coverage begins at 9:30, first pitch at 10:05 right here on 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio.
