The Yankees (41-28) made the short trip to Citi Field to start a three game weekend series with the Mets (39-32) on Friday night and the Mets got off to a good start at getting their revenge after getting swept at Yankee stadium two weekends ago. Andy Pettitte got rocked in the first inning but settled down and pitched well for the remainder of his outing.

In the first inning the Pettitte got into trouble right away. Andres Torres led off with a walk, Ronny Cedeno singled and Scott Hairston walked loading the bases. Lucas Duda flew out center field for the second out of the inning but Josh Turner would single bringing in two runs. Ike Davis then lifted a high fall ball to deep right field that bounced off of Nick Swishers glove over the fence as he tried to make a leaping catch. The three run homer was Davis 8th home run of the season and put the Mets up 5-0 in the first inning. Pettitte went six innings gave up five runs on seven hits and struck out six.

Mets starter Jonathan Niese pitched well against the Yankees lineup. Niese went 6 1/3 gave up two runs on eight hits and struck out five. The two runs were two solo home runs. The first was a sixth inning shot to dead center field from Alex Rodriguez. It was A-Rods 12th of the season. In the seventh Andruw Jones led off with a solo homer to left field. It was Jones seventh of the season.

David Wright hit an RBI double off of Cory Wade in the seventh inning putting the Mets up 6-2.

Robinson Cano hit a two run homer in the eighth inning off of Mets reliever Miguel Batista making the score 6-4. It was Cano’s 15th of the season.
