The Yankees (12-9) put together a solid performance Sunday beating the Tigers (11-11) 6-2 and taking the series two games to one. C.C. Sabathia was on top of his game against the Tiger lineup throwing eight innings, only giving up two runs on four hits and added eight strikeouts.  His eight innings of work was something the Yankees desperately needed as their bullpen was getting over-worked in recent days.

The Yankees despite leaving a ridiculous 14 runners on base still managed to score six runs on 11 hits.  In the second inning the Yankees got on the board after Tigers starter Max Scherzer walked Curtis Granderson with the bases loaded. Alex Rodriguez followed with a RBI single.  Curtis Granderson would add one more with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth, his eighth of the season.  In the seventh inning the Yankees would manufacture two more runs thanks to an A-Rod RBI groundout and a Robinson Cano RBI sac-fly. Andruw Jones put the game out of reach with a solo shot in the eighth inning, his third of the season.

Tigers starter Max Scherzer was wild in his start. He went 4 2/3 innings, gave up seven hits and walked seven. But the Yankees failed to capitalize numerous times and Scherzer escaped only giving up three runs.

In the fourth inning Tigers slugger Prince Fielder hit a solo blast off C.C. Sabathia, it was his third homer of the year.

Nick Swisher left the game in the bottom of the third with a tight left hamstring. He is being ruled day-to-day as of right now.

The Yankees play again tomorrow in Baltimore. The Yankees will send Hiroki Kuroda (1-3 4.38), Orioles will start Jason Hammel (3-0 1.73). Pregame starts at 6:30, first pitch at 7:05 right here on 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio.
