After fighting to make the 25-man Opening Day roster, the Yankees have sent infielder Rob Refsnyder down to AAA.

The converted outfielder played second base during his Yankees call-up last season and is being converted to third this season.

But a rough weekend helped force the send-down. He made three errors in two games and took two ground balls off the face.

The decision to move him to third is unfortunate for his development but understandable. The Yankees acquired Starlin Castro and plan to play him at second base and also have veteran Pete Kozma in the mix for a backup spot. At third, Chase Headley has the starting position on lock, but there are no real internal backup candidates blocking him.

I believe we'll see Refsnyder back in NY if injuries strike the infield, but not unless that happens. He appears to be on the outside looking in of the organization. I wonder if the Yanks will trade him.
