According to Jerry Crasnick from ESPN.com, the New York Yankees are stepping up their pursuit of free agent right-hander Justin Duchsherer.

The 33-year-old is a 2-time American League All-Star with a 33-25 career record and a career ERA just over 3. There is some risk in signing Duchsherer, who has only pitched 28 innings over the last 2 seasons due to a wide variety of injuries.

The Yanks are obviously in need of pitching help, with Andy Pettitte's possible retirement looming over their heads and A.J. Burnett coming off arguably the worst season of his MLB career. Regardless of whether Duchsherer would be used in the bullpen or as a starter in the back of the rotation, it has become blatantly obvious that Brian Cashman is trying to patch a gaping hole on the roster.
