With all the excitement over the Yankees' 100-win season, the Wild Card win over the A's to set up a long-anticipated meeting in the playoffs with the Red Sox and the doldrums created by the Giants' offensive deficiencies, the season opener for the New York Rangers has been laying in the weeds.

Henrik Lundqvist is another year older, now 36 with two years remaining on his contract, but great, the goaltender can still be. Much will be made about the names that are no longer on the roster (last year's 34-39-9 season opened itself to selling at the trade deadline), but take a closer look at this team and it's hardly devoid of talent at any layer. The 2018-'19 season is setting up to be a pleasant surprise for the many Rangers fans who are taking a pessimistic approach.
