Yankees Steal Another Win From Texas

The New York Yankees pulled out another game against the Texas Rangers to follow up their walk-off win on Wednesday night. Yesterday, the Yankees beat the Rangers 2-1 after they snatched the game from Texas with a walk-off-passed-ball.

Rangers reliever Tony Barnette threw a tailing 2-seam fastball to that was misplayed by sure-handed catcher Robinson Chirinos. The ball trickled all the way to the backstop behind home plate, allowing Chase Headley, who walked to lead off the inning, to score the game-winning run and secure the Yankees series split with Texas.

"Once it got by, though, there's no going back," Headley said. "You just hope that you make it."

Michael Pineda gave by far his best performance of the season. After giving up a lead-off home run to start the game to Shin-Soo Choo, Pineda only gave up one more hit as he went six strong innings while striking out 12 batters. Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, and Aroldis Chapman relieved Pineda. Yankees pitchers combined to strike out 16 Rangers on Thursday.

Pineda's early season struggles seem to have diminished. He had a 2.75 ERA in June.

The Yankees are now back at .500 (39-39) and get set to start a 10-game road trip starting in San Diego.
