Round #3 goes to Boston.

The Red Sox got some clutch hitting and came back to defeat the Yankees 3-2 in extra innings on Sunday night.   The Red Sox victory moves them a game ahead of the Yanks in the AL East standings.

The Yankees got 5 solid innings from Freddy Garcia - who gave up just 5 hits, 1 run, walked 3 and struck out 1. The Yankees got some key offensive hits from Eduardo Nunez and Brett Gardner - each with solo home runs.  Gardner's 7th inning blast gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead.

But then Mariano Rivera blew the save opportunity in the bottom of the ninth. And Boston won the game in the bottom of the 10th thanks to Josh Reddick.

The Yanks held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the 9th. Mariano Rivera made a mistake pitch to Marco Scutaro for a lead-off double. Then the Red Sox used the next two batters to sacrifice Scutaro home to score.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, Josh Reddick had the walk-off hit down the left field line to score the winning run. With the win the Red Sox move into first in the AL East with a one game lead.
