The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers 9-3 in game one of the American League Division Series. The Yankees got great pitching from CC Sabathia on Friday and Ivan Nova on Saturday. They also got a huge boost from their MVP candidate Robinson Cano who had 6 RBI in the game including a grand slam.

Find out the Yankees' game plans for game two and the rest of this series.

The Yankees were able to begin their ALDS with the Tigers right where they left off from the regular season with great starting pitching and lots of power from their league-leading offense lead by Robinson Cano. Cano went 3-5 with 6 RBI. The 6 RBI tie him with Hideki Matsui, Bernie Williams, and Bobby Richardson for the most RBI in a single postseason game.

CC Sabathia started game one with two innings of one hit ball. The one hit a Delmon Young solo home run. Ivan Nova followed up that effort with 6 solid  innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs. It's so far so good for the Yankees from their pitching staff. However, their staff will get tested on Sunday.

On Sunday the Yankees will hope to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series as they will send Freddy Garcia to the mound. Garcia has been effective during this past season keeping the Yankees in the game in the vast majority of his outings. The Yankees will have a well rested bullpen at the ready which will include Phil Hughes as well as the other cast of regulars including Rafael Soriano, David Robertson, and Mariano Rivera. The Tigers will counter with Max Scherzer.
