The New York Yankees were able to overcome a Tampa Bay lead in order to make a very special day for Derek Jeter even more memorable.

Derek Jeter only needed 2 hits to reach 3,000 today, instead the Yankee Captain goes 5-5 with his 3,000th hit being a home run.  The top that off the Yankees grab the 5-4 win over Tampa Bay thanks to some clutch work by the Yankee bullpen.

AJ Burnett lasted just over 5 innings and allowed 3 Tampa runs to cross the plate, but he would only allow 3 hits total.  Unfortunately 2 of those hits were home runs.  Burnett would also strike out 9 batters.  Boone Logan, Cory Wade and David Robertson were able to hold the Yankee lead to set up Mariano Rivera for his 22nd save.

Jeter wasn't the only one with the big bat today.  Mark Teixeira was 2-3 and Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano and Russell Martin each had an RBI.  This is exactly the kind of momentum the Yankees want to have as the first half of the season comes to a close.  They'll have one more game against the Rays tomorrow afternoon, before the all star break next week.
