The Yankees got a big win behind their ace, CC Sabathia on Monday evening as they defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-2 at US Cellular Field in Chicago. Yankees did catch a handful of breaks but it was ultimately CC that pitched out of key jams for the victory.

Why was this a big win? What's so important about the start tomorrow for Hughes?

With the Red Sox losing to the Indians 9-6, the Yankees needed a win to gain ground and they got one. Their 3-2 victory brings them to within one game of the AL East lead. This is crucial since the two clubs face each other this weekend in an important AL East lead series. The Red Sox have had the upper hand this year and the Yankees need to turn things around quickly.

Phil Hughes pitches Tuesday night in what will be an important start for him. He is competing with Ivan Nova for a rotation spot. Joe Girardi hinted prior to Monday night's game that Phil Hughes has bullpen experience, meaning that unless Nova crashes in his start this week, that Hughes would likely pitch out of the bullpen. A positive move for the Yankees as he would provide support in the 6th and 7th innings.

Other Yankee notes include the promotion of Manny Banuelos to AAA. The young, talented lefty could be in play to make an appearance in the majors upcoming.
