Yanks, Red Sox Dominate MLB All-Star Rosters

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are two of Major League Baseball’s best teams.  So it’s no surprise that both clubs will be well represented in the 82nd MLB All-Star Game in Phoenix’s Chase Field on July 12th.

Four Yankees will start for the American League while there will be two Red Sox in the AL starting lineup as the rosters for both the AL and NL clubs were announced on Sunday afternoon.

Fans selected 17 starters (including an AL DH) in the online fan vote, the players chose 17 position players and 16 pitchers (10 starters plus six relievers), and the two managers (Texas’ Ron Washington  for the AL and San Francisco’s Bruce Bochy in the NL), picked the remaining 10 pitchers and six reserves.

This year’s Midsummer Classic, the first with the designated hitter deployed in an NL park, will feature 34 players per league.

Fans will have a chance to vote on one remaining player in the American and National League.  Making up the Final Vote competition are Alex Gordon of the Royals, Adam Jones of the Orioles, Paul Konerko of the White Sox, Victor Martinez of the Tigers and Ben Zobrist of the Rays in the AL; and Andre Ethier of the Dodgers, Todd Helton of the Rockies, Ian Kennedy of the D-backs, Michael Morse of the Nationals and Shane Victorino of the Phillies in the NL.
