There is one simple explanation why Yao Ming was named a starter for the NBA All-Star Game.

Fans are completely biased.  Yao Ming has only played five games this season.  Five!  He's not close to being an all-star.  He's not even close to being in the All-Star Game galaxy, yet he was voted in by fans as a starter.

You have to be able to separate your heart from your head.  If your opinion is severely impacted by your feelings or your rooting interest, then your opinion doesn't matter.

By voting for Yao Ming, you're essentially saying that he is one of the elite players in the league this year.  That he's had one of the best seasons thusfar.  The man has played in five games and is injured for the season.  That's terrible.

As far as sports opinions go, there is nothing worse than a sports fan who can't put his or her rooting interest to the side and provide an objective thought.  The fans who can't do that, are better off keeping their biased thoughts to themselves.
