Adam Schefter On JPP Situation: ‘This Is Far From Over’ [AUDIO]
When Jason Pierre-Paul showed up to the Giants facility on Monday, it appeared that the two sides would soon come up with a solution. Tuesday showed that wasn't the case at all.
"I’m not surprised by this," said ESPN's Adam Schefter, to Armen and Levack, on 104.5 The Team. "They are in disagreement about how to handle this situation going forward and he has not signed that franchise tender.
"There are no plans to sign that franchise tender any time soon and the discussions between the Giants and JPP have broken down over differences in opinion and his readiness to play after suffering injuries in that fireworks accident.
"He’s going to want to be paid right now, the Giants don’t want to pay him because he may not be ready to play, and we’ve heard a lot of conversations—this saga is far from being over. It wasn’t like he was just going to show up and then play Sunday against Dallas. That’s not going to happen, he’s not going to play."
Pierre-Paul's original franchise tag offer of $14.7 million is most likely what he's willing to sign at this point but the Giants obviously don't feel like he'd be able to earn that money physical.
Last season, Pierre-Paul totaled 12.5 sacks. There is not a player currently on the Giants defense who has totaled more than 7.5 sacks in a season.
