The New York Mets were able to avoid the sweep of the Yankees thanks to a clutch 9th inning performance and the bat of Jason Bay in the 10th.

The Yankees looked like they were ready to bring out the brooms this afternoon at Citi Field, but the Mets were able to spoil the sweep and end the Yanks latest win streak.  The Mets would come through in the 9th inning to score a run to tie the game and then Jason Bay would hit a single in the 10th inning scoring Scott Hairston for the walk off win.

Usually Mariano River is a sure thing, but once again he proves that he is human after all.  He was just one strike away from picking up another save and giving the Yanks the sweep but he can't get it done.  Yankee fielding was also a problem.  Ramiro Pena had 2 errors in the game including a big one in the 9th.  It's really to bad because Freddy Garcia did a good job through 7 innings.  The loss going to Luis Ayala, his second of the season.

Next up for the Yankees is the Cleveland Indians starting tomorrow night. They could see the return of the Captain tomorrow as well.   The Yanks still maintain a 1.5 game lead over the Red Sox right now for first in the AL East.
