The NHL 2021-2022 season is nearing an end.

The Colorado Avalanche are awaiting an opponent in the Stanley Cup Final, which will either be the Tampa Bay Lightning or New York Rangers; that series is tied 2-2.

The NHL Entry Draft will be held on July 7th and 8th from Montreal. The start of free agency will be on July 13th at noon.

The Buffalo Sabres will likely be one of the most active teams in the league. Assuming GM Kevyn Adams re-signs a few of his players, the Sabres will have roughly $20 million they will have to spend just to get to the salary cap floor for 2022-2023.

That means Adams will likely target a few free agents and even a trade partner or two.

On defence, the Sabres are pretty set to be honest. They have had strong play down the stretch from their young players like Rasmus Dahlin, Matttias Samuelsson, Casey Fitzgerald and Henri Jokiharju. They also have first-overall pick, Owen Power.

Buffalo is likely to add two or three veteran forwards and maybe a veteran defenceman. They also need another goaltander. I doubt 41-year-old Craig Anderson will return and Dustin Tokarski is just not someone who can be an NHL goalie at this point.

They need a new face to pair with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. A veteran bridge goaltender to give the likes of Devon Levi and Erik Portillo time to develop in college and Rochester.

Here are five pending free agents the Sabres should go after.
