Casper Wells had quite a day on Sunday.

The Schenectady native served up a Mother's Day present, blasting a home run at Yankee Stadium, in his return to the Empire State, with the Seattle Mariners.

His mother, Daiva, had asked for a home run before the game and the former South Troy Dodgers star delivered.

Wells also hit a home run off of his sister's favorite pitcher, Andy Pettitte.

Wells, who hasn't had has much success as he's hoped for this year, also made the final three outs, from left field, in the ninth inning, to secure the victory for the Mariners in front of more than a dozen friends and family members.

It was enough for Wells to tweet this after the game, @UpstateBaller "What an amazing day and one I will never forget. Made momma proud!"

Wells is hitting .242 (8-33) with four doubles, four RBI and that one home run this season for the Mariners.

Another former South Troy Dodgers player is ready to make his 2012 big league debut on Monday.

Saratoga Catholic grad Tim Stauffer will take the mound for San Diego, when the Padres take on the Washington Nationals.

Stauffer had to go on the disabled list before his season even got going because of elbow issues. He's worked his way back up and is ready to start this evening.

Stauffer was 9-12 last season for the Padres, but did finish with a 3.73 ERA. It was his first big league season starting more than 14 games.

On Saturday, former Siena College star Anthony Giansanti was called up to the Class A, Peoria Chiefs, in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Giansanti primarily played outfield during his days at Siena, but he has done a little of everything, which makes his services all the more useful. The Chiefs called Giansanti up to play catcher.

Like many athletes these days, Giansanti took to twitter to celebrate, @GianSanity: "Headed up to Peoria in the morning! #onestepfurtherinthejourney
