Ready for a road trip? Across New York State, many families are taking advantage of the President's Day/winter break and getting out of town! But for those who are staying closer to home, getting a hotel room might become a little more pricey.

From Buffalo to New York City, New York State has some incredible things to see and do. A "staycation" in New York can be a great way to get away from the daily grind and spend some quality family time.

But as we grind out the winter, there are some reports that cities in New York State are considering a new tax that will impact hotels.

Cities In New York State Consider This Massive Tax Increase

In an effort to try to gain millions of dollars for his City, there is is a proposal from the acting Buffalo Mayor to add a three percent "bed tax" to the hotel bills in Buffalo.

In Erie County, the hotel tax shapes up like this:

"The rate of three percent (3%) is to be charged and paid upon the rent for every occupancy of a room in a hotel with 30 or less rooms located in Erie County. The rate of five percent (5%) is to be charged and paid upon the rent for every occupancy of a room in a hotel with more than 30 rooms located in Erie County".

Any new tax would be added to the current Erie County tax.

We spent some time in Buffalo a few weeks back. The Courtyard Hotel near the Key Bank Center is a great hotel and ideal for families who are looking to stay in downtown Buffalo. It was very clean, had a nice indoor pool, it was quiet and the customer service was good! We have stayed in other hotels in the Western New York area, and, for the most part, they were good places to stay. There is a difference when it comes to how clean a room is and how quiet a hotel is, and that is how my wife and I choose where to stay.

As far as price per room, we don't try to stay anywhere that will break the bank, and we don't choose anything that seems too cheap.
