The cost of eggs continues to rise in New York with no end in sight.

If you were hoping for a break when came to the cost of eggs it looks like you're going to have to wait a bit longer. The price of a dozen eggs is even more than it was just a few weeks ago and this might not be the last time we see the prices go up.

With farmers dealing with high cases of the avian flu we will just continue to see the prices go up and up and up. This weekend the cost of a dozen large eggs at Hannaford in the Capital Region was $6.99. That's almost a dollar more than the beginning of January when a dozen large eggs was at $5.99.

According to NBC News 13 million hens have been lost to bird flu or slaughtered as a result since December.

New York's Attorney General believes that there could also be price gouging at play and is currently battling for consumers to make sure that business owners aren't taking advantage of the situation by raising prices unfairly.

The bird flu is affecting poultry farms and causing a national shortage, but this should not be an excuse for businesses to dramatically raise prices.

When will things get better?

Right now that is very unclear. With bird flu cases rising the bounce back could take longer and that's a problem for President Trump who campaigned on the promise of lowering food costs for the United States. As of right now, even hsi hands seem to be tied.

Gas Prices are also said to be ready to go up as well. It doesn't look like things will be getting any lighter on your wallet anytime soon.
