NYSP Ask for Help
The New York State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Stephen J. Houghton, a man from Keeseville who’s been missing for more than two years.
His case has now gained serious traction, and there's a serious reward for information leading to his whereabouts.
According to police, Houghton was last seen on February 20, 2022, at a Stewart’s Shop in Port Henry, NY, which is about 2 hours north of Albany.

Police say he was 35 at the time, and they described him as a white male, about 6’2”, 225 pounds, with black hair and blue eyes.
ATF Now Involved
Family members reported him missing after he stopped all communication, and the last official response tied to the case came from the Villa Motel in Ausable in August 2023, according to sources.
According to the New York State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is officially involved, and they’re putting up a $25,000 reward for information leading to Houghton’s whereabouts.
ATF Gets Involved
When the ATF gets pulled into a missing person case, it usually means there’s more going on behind the scenes.
The ATF typically investigates cases tied to illegal weapons, explosives, contraband, or major criminal networks. While police haven’t said why they’re so eager to find Houghton, the federal involvement suggests this isn’t just a standard disappearance.
With $25,000 on the table and the ATF watching closely, authorities clearly want Stephen Houghton.
If you have any information, investigators urge you to contact the New York State Police at 518-897-2000.
