After landing a verbal commitment from a 5 star recruit for the Class of 2016, does Syracuse basketball have a scholarship left for Shenendehowa's Kevin Huerter? The summer of 2015 is already lining up to be an incredible one for Shenendeowa basketball star Kevin Huerter. Huerter already has played along side some of the best basketball players in the world earlier this year at the Nike Basketball camp. In June he joined Armen and Levack and announced that he will begin taking unofficial visits to schools including Villanova, Michigan, Maryland, Notre Dame and Syracuse.

However Syracuse basketball no longer has any scholarships available for the 2016-2017 season. Coach Jim Boeheim's program received a verbal commitment from five star New Jersey prospect Tyus Battle this week. The NCAA has limited Syracuse basketball to just ten scholarships for the 2016-2017 season after an investigation discovered academic misconduct. The 2016-2017 projected roster is as follows

2016-17 Roster

1. DaJuan Coleman – Sr.
2. Chinonso Obokoh – Sr.
3. Tyler Roberson – Sr.
4. Kaleb Joseph – Jr.
5. Paschal Chukwu – So.
6. Moustapha Diagne – So.
7. Frank Howard – So.
8. Tyler Lydon – So.
9. Malachi Richardson – So.
10. Matthew Moyer Fr. – verbal commitment
11. Tyus Battle - verbal commitment

After Battle's verbal commitment, the Orange are now over the scholarship limit for that season. SU will need to either regain two scholarships from the appeal or have two underclassman leave the program to bring Huerter into the program with a scholarship. The other alternative for Huerter to attend Syracuse on a scholarship is to have him attend a prep school for one season and start his college career in the 2017-2018. The Orange currently have two scholarships spots available for the 2017-2018 season. Huerter has not set an official date on when he will announce his college decision.
