After a tough non-conference schedule the Great Danes are picking up right where they left off last season when they won the AE and went to the NCAA Tournament.
Wednesday night was a much needed win for the UAlbany men's basketball team. They defeated the Long Island Sharks 76-59 and ended the game on a 31-16 run.
Baseball is a funny game and a Major League clubhouse can be an interesting place. Respect from veteran players doesn't come easy. Younger players and journeyman are merely taking another guy's job. So, when a 12 year-veteran All Star buys the entire team replica tee-shirt jerseys of your name and number, that's a pretty big honor.
UAlbany beat Binghamton 68-67 behind a career night from Jarvis Doles who led with 21 points. We were thrilled to be joined by Coach Killings in studio today.
This was a difficult decision. I understand that if Stony Brook wins the America East men's basketball tournament, number one seeded Vermont will not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The country will be listening to CBS commentators sayings something like "...and Stony Brook will be leaving the America East for the CAA in the fall..." That is hard to choke down for any member institution.
Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) commissioner Joey D'Antonio announced that Stony Brook University, Monmouth University and Hampton University will join the CAA as 'full members' next season. Stony Brook and Albany are currently 'associate members' of the CAA for football only. Starting next year, Stony Brook will become a full member and compete against the likes of Charleston, William & Mary, Delaware and Long Island rival Hofstra, instead of NJIT, Maine and the rest of America East.
UAlbany, who has won 3 out of their last 4 games, raced out to 24-7 lead over the Mountain Hawks and never looked back. Dre Perry led the Great Danes scoring attack with 18 points, while blocking 3 shots and snatching 2 steals on the defensive side. Freshman Justin Neely was a monster on the glass, grabbing 14 boards while adding 11 points of his own.
Head Coach Dwayne Killings and the Great Danes men's basketball team are still getting to know one another. The media guide clearly states that 16 of the 22 players, coaches and staff are new to the program. More often than not, the cohesion that enables them to win college basketball games takes time for the players and the coaches to develop. Monday night in Chestnut Hill in Boston, the UAlbany Great Danes took a huge step in that process.
After a 16-0 league slate, members of the University at Albany women's basketball program swept the major awards at the America East Conference reception, held on Thursday afternoon at UAlbany's Campus Center Ballroom. Senior Ebone Henry was named the league's Co-Player of the Year, as well as the Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight season, while freshman Shereesha Richards brought
The University at Albany has quietly become a power in a number of sports, despite their more high profile struggles in men's basketball. Yesterday, they tightened their stranglehold on America East indoor track, sweeping the men's and women's conference championships yet again...
Clearly the UAlbany basketball team had vengence on their mind after dropping 3 straight games and falling to 3rd place in the America East Conference. They took out their frustration on the Binghamton Bearcats. In a game that was never a game UAlbany came out smoking, built a 40-14 lead at the half and cruised to their 17th win of the year...
