Saratoga Race Course has long been a crown jewel of the New York Racing Association. Soon the historic race track may host the biggest crown in horse racing, the Triple Crown.
Saturday will be the 155th running of the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of horse racing's jewel, the Triple Crown. As the anticipation builds for fans to watch Forte battle Tapid Trice and National Treasure this weekend, the attention of many in the horse racing community has already begun to look north to Saratoga, horse racing's summer home.
The Belmont Stakes will run on June 11th and tickets will go on sale this Thursday at 10 a.m. You can purchase tickets on Ticketmaster.com. Attendance will be limited to 50,000 fans instead of the pre-COVID-19 pandemic capacity of 90,000. Highlighted by the 154th running of the Grade 1, $1.5 million Belmont Stakes, the oldest and most challenging track of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival will begin on Thursday, June 9th.
The horse-racing community, which runs so deeply in Saratoga, lost one of its premiere thoroughbred racehorses earlier today. Medina Spirit has passed away.
The Cross Island Parkway was experiencing delays on Saturday from about 3:30pm until about 7:30pm. It was not a surprise with the New York Islanders opening the doors to their new facility. The wait was finally over. The puck was dropping at the UBS Arena located at Belmont Park at 7pm.

Donald is the owrer of the Blue Line Deli in Huntington. His family owns Bagel Boss, a Long Island bagel chain that pretty much knocks it out of the park at every location. In March of 2020, no I am not kidding you, Donald Rosner decided to take his family knowhow and go out on his own. Just as the pandemic started, he opened his "New York Islander themed" deli. Rosner is a huge Islanders fan and huge is probably an understatement.
It took 25 years and a Triple Crown threat to get me to Belmont Park, but earlier today I made the two and a half hour trek down to Long Island to begin a weekend's worth of coverage as California Chrome races for his sports first Triple Crown in 36 years.
