The long-awaited return of Arena football to the Times Union Center in downtown Albany may have to wait a little longer unless Governor Andrew Cuomo acts quickly. The Albany Empire is supposed to return to action on Saturday, May 22nd at 7 pm but that is far from a done deal at this point. A source close to the team has told me that if Cuomo does not announce that indoor capacity will be increased to at least 25% in time for the Empire's home opener by April 1st the 2021 season would be canceled.
Yankee Stadium has always been one of my favorite places in the world. I remember thinking when they shut down "The House That Ruth Built" and opened the new Yankee Stadium it would never be the same. I thought that the new stadium could never feel like home the way the original did but I was wrong. I love the new stadium and now there's yet another reason to love Yankee Stadium, it's now being used to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to New Yorkers. Governor Andrew Cuomo was joined by Yankees Team President Randy Levine, manager Aaron Boone and Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera today on his press conference to get the word out.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has given clearance for High Risk High School sports to begin as early as February 1st. High School players and coaches of Basketball, wrestling, hockey, volleyball, football and lacrosse may finally get to compete here in New York. As long as local health departments approve Cuomo and the New York State Department of Health will allow practice to begin as early as February 1st.
