Home cookin' will hopefully mean a lot. It hasn't been on the menu for Coach Greg Gattuso and his team very often this season. The UAlbany Great Danes will be home for back to back weekends for the first time this year, as the team hosts Maine for their annual ‘Pink Game’ to raise awareness for breast cancer and the American Cancer Society. The Great Dane fan base is also hoping that this will be the game where their team turns the corner with a victory.

Monday was Media Day at UAlbany Football and I was lucky enough to be invited to broadcast The Drive with Charlie & Dan from 3p to 7p from Tom & Mary Casey Stadium, so I did. It was fun to catch up and spend some face time with old friends, even though it seems like our society is going backwards in seeing faces. Athletic Director Mark Benson and Deputy Athletic Director Vic Cegles came on and talked about the upcoming season and the excitement of having fans back in the stands. Then Head Coach Greg Gattuso hung out on the The Drive for almost an hour and reflected on the challenges the Great Danes faced last year and how they are preparing for a very tough schedule this season.

The University of Albany Great Danes football team is 1 - 0 to start this six-game Spring 2021 season. Even though the thought of FCS college football in March is far from normal one thing hasn't changed, UAlbany likes to run the football with Senior Karl Mofor. Head Coach Greg Gattuso knows talent on the football field and has some high expectations for Mofor.

The 2020 CAA University of Albany Great Danes Football season was one of many victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. In an attempt to salvage the season a plan to postpone play until Spring of 2021 was put into place. As you know just because you schedule something does not guarantee it'll happen especially while there's a worldwide pandemic taking place. The University of Albany Football team is waiting for a Spring 2021 kickoff to a delayed 2020 season but Early Signing Day still happens. The Great Danes added 10 signees on Early Signing Day and even though it's a class full of Team Captains and impressive players there's only one New Yorker. It was a BIG weekend for the UAlbany Great Danes. Three members of the 2019 Football team have signed Undrafted Free Agent deals with NFL Teams.Defensive End Eli Mencer, Wide Receivers Juwan Green and Jarren Williams are all getting a shot to play on Sundays. The Great Danes won their first FCS playoff game in program history Saturday when they beat the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils 42-14 at Casey Stadium. A week ago the former Troy High School stand out Wide Receiver was suspended for violating team rules and now he is no longer a UAlbany Great Dane. The sophomore has left the University at Albany Football program. Details are few and far between at this time.
