While they no longer hold training camp at UAlbany, the New York Giants will still visit the Great Danes from time to time, and here's why that happened this past weekend.
Monday was Media Day at UAlbany Football and I was lucky enough to be invited to broadcast The Drive with Charlie & Dan from 3p to 7p from Tom & Mary Casey Stadium, so I did. It was fun to catch up and spend some face time with old friends, even though it seems like our society is going backwards in seeing faces. Athletic Director Mark Benson and Deputy Athletic Director Vic Cegles came on and talked about the upcoming season and the excitement of having fans back in the stands. Then Head Coach Greg Gattuso hung out on the The Drive for almost an hour and reflected on the challenges the Great Danes faced last year and how they are preparing for a very tough schedule this season.
Yesterday on The Drive with Charlie & Dan, Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator, Joe Davis was asked by Dan Bahl if it was nice having a running back that you can count on like Senior, Karl Mofor in the Great Danes backfield. Davis never hesitated and respond emphatically, "Absolutely!" Morfor is one of the best in the Colonial Athletic Association conference and again has been recognized as one of the best in the country.
The University of Albany Great Danes football team is 1 - 0 to start this six-game Spring 2021 season. Even though the thought of FCS college football in March is far from normal one thing hasn't changed, UAlbany likes to run the football with Senior Karl Mofor. Head Coach Greg Gattuso knows talent on the football field and has some high expectations for Mofor.
Three UAlbany Great Dane football players have received preseason honors. Running Back Karl Mofor was named to the Hero Sports FCS All-American team. Fellow Great Danes Quarterback Jeff Undercuffler and Linebacker Levi Metheny made the second team.
The University of Albany Great Danes football program is preparing for their 7th season in the Colonial Athletic Association. The CAA is a true power in FCS college football and the Great Danes are looking to prove they are a force to be reckoned with. Head Coach Greg Gattuso has a talented group of players that are visibly larger than any group I personally have seen at UAlbany. We spent the morning at practice and interviewed Gattuso and some of offensive weapons.
