Records broken. Defenders left in the rearview mirror. Championships won. That was the legacy of Malachi Jones. Now, two years after ArenaBowl XXXII, he’s back.
The Montreal Alouettes have signed University of Albany star defensive end/linebacker Eli Mencer. Mencer was a massive part of the Great Danes team that made it to the second round of the 2019 FCS playoffs. Mencer joins Albany Empire star wide receiver Malachi Jones on the Alouettes, making Montreal the most Albany team in the Canadian Football League.
The Challenge on MTV is legit one of my most embarrassing guilty pleasures. If you've never seen it, 30 or so ridiculously good looking MTV personalities face off in physical, mental, and social challenges for a chance to win a large sum of money. In this the show's 36 season called "The Challenge: Double Agents" I noticed a somewhat familiar face, Theresa Jones is the sister in law to Albany Empire legend Malachi Jones.
There's an old saying that "Hindsight is 20/20" but in the case of former Albany Empire star receiver Malachi Jones his foresight appears to also be very clear. After last year's Arena Bowl Jones was picked up by the Seattle Dragons of the new and improved XFL. Malachi's days as a Dragon were numbered as he shortly thereafter joined the Montreal Alouettes. We all know now that the XFL was doomed thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, but what was it that made Malachi decide to take his talents north of the border?
Ever since Wide Receiver Malachi Jones made his debut with the Albany Empire he's been a favorite here in the Capital Region. He also hasn't stopped playing professional football during that time. After joining the Empire in 2018, Jones went straight to the Atlanta Legends in the Alliance of American Football League then back here for the Empire championship run. NOW Malachi is a member of the Seattle Dragons in the XFL.
Today we took the Levack and Goz show on the road all the way to Florham Park New Jersey for New York Jets' Training Camp. The Jets have always been great to us and this year was no exception. Safety Doug Middleton was nice enough to sit down with us for the second straight year. Middleton played his college football at Appalachian State where he was teammates with the Albany Empire's star Wide Receiver Malachi Jones.
The Blue Wave is coming my friends. This Saturday when Malachi Jones and the Albany Empire host the Baltimore Brigade in game one of the playoffs the Times Union Center will be home to the first ever Blue Wave.
The Albany Empire have started this season 2 - 0 with a chance to take sole possession of first place in the Arena Football League when they play the Philadelphia Soul this Saturday. Some people think the Empire's winning started before the season even began when they found out reigning Arena League Rookie of the Year Wide Receiver Malachi Jones would be rejoining the team.
Last year's Rookie of the Year and Albany Empire breakout star, Malachi Jones is returning to the Capital Region! Jones was really starting to hit his stride with the Atlanta Legends of the Alliance of American Football League before the AAF was forced to fold. There has been speculation he might return to help the Empire with their #UnfinishedBusiness and now we know he will be back as early as this week.
The Alliance of American Football League didn't last nearly as long as we all had hoped but at least we got to see Albany Empire standout Wide Receiver Malachi Jones do his thing for the Atlanta Legends.
“There is always the possibility to come back next season,” said Jones. “Now I just have to see what happens and what opportunities come around in the next few months. My time in Chicago was great and I am thankful to have the opportunity to keep pursuing my NFL dream.”
