Big tires and a whole lotta horsepower are making their way to the Capital Region.

Time has officially run out on the Times Union Center. Albany's famous sports venue will have a brand new name come the beginning of 2022.

There is a whole extra layer of what went into creating the "FireWolves" name, one that embraces the rich indigenous history of the Capital Region and Albany.

Mere days are left in the Times Union Center's current naming rights contract, and reports are surfacing that a change may be imminent.

When sports fans of the Capital Region pack the house in December, The Times Union Center will house a sea of maroon, white and gray as far as the eye can see.

Jackson Nishimura is only going into his third season in the National Lacrosse but he already sounds like a veteran you'd want on any roster. When the Albany Firewolves begin their inaugural season at the Times Union Center this December Nishimura will get to do what he loves again finally after being locked down in Toronto, Canada, play Box Lacrosse.

The Albany Empire's return to the Times Union Center will have to wait a little longer. One week longer to be exact. Due to a venue issue with another NAL team, the opening day of the 2021 National Arena League season will be pushed back from May 22nd to May 29th. The good news is this leaves more time to potentially allow more fans at the Times Union Center.

Just like every other team or sports league the Albany Empire has had its share of issues and even delays as it's prepared to return to play at the Times Union Center. A delayed start, limited capacity, and even the last-minute resignation of coach Rob Keefe have not stopped the Empire ownership's dedication to kick off in 2021. The 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Regional tournament is this weekend at the Times Union Center. The seeding for the Albany Region are 1) Boston College, 2) St. Cloud State, 3) Boston University and 4) Notre Dame. Not only will the eyes of college Hockey fans all over the country be on the Capital Region this weekend it's also the first event at the Times Union Center with fans in attendance in over a year. As a stipulation to attending this weekend's NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional at the Times Union Center you'll need to provide a negative PCR COVID-19 Test taken no more than 72 hours prior to the game. IF you're looking for a place to take those tests you can now go to the Times Union Center itself.
