Kaipo Pomaikai wasn't feeling so lucky when he was struck in the head by a fast-moving volleyball at his grandson's high school match. To make matters worse, when Kaiko Pomaikia was driving home from the game he started losing vision in his left eye. So Pomaikia went to the hospital, and that's when the story took quite a serendipitous turn.

The Burnt Hills girls volleyball team captured the state Class A championship on Sunday beating Our Lady of Mercy (Rochester), 3-1, at the Glens Falls Civic Center.The Spartans won, 25-21, 25-23, 19-25 and 25-18 to claim their first state title since 2005.

Winning is contagious for the Burnt Hills girls volleyball team.  On Sept. 13, the Lady Spartans beat Niskayuna, 25-8, 25-12, 25-15 to sweep a Suburban Council match...again. This time it marked Burnt Hill's 300th straight win in the league.
