Giants wideout Victor Cruz hopes to play this weekend and offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz says it instantly change of defenses view their offense.

“Some of our issues are that we’ve had the safety down a lot in the run game,” said Schwartz, to ‘Armen and Levack’ on 104.5 The Team. “If you put [Cruz] in that slot, the safety is not going to be down as much in the run game because they have to honor our slot receiver. Having him back will be a great boost for our offense.

“To add a Pro Bowl caliber player into your offense can really help. Especially in the slot, who are you going to cover? You can cover Odell, you can cover [Reuben Randle], you can cover [Cruz], you can cover [Larry Donnell].”

Cruz has not played for the Giants since last October after tearing his patella tendon and having surgery on it last fall. Most recently, he’s had a calf injury that’s kept him sideline through the first three games of the 2015 season.

“I don’t think you can expect [him to be 100%] right away, but just having him back on the field is going to help us.”

“I hope he plays this weekend. If he said he’s going to be back, I’m sure he wouldn’t say it unless he really felt like that was the case.”

Giants offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz joins ‘Armen and Levack’ every Tuesday at 5:15 pm ET, sponsored by McLane Food Service, and exclusively on 104.5 The Team.
