Social Media’s Bullying of South African Sprinter Caster Semenya
We live in a sick world. Caster Semenya, a South African sprinter, has been embroiled in controversy over her gender for years. Now that we are in an Olympic year, that controversy has reared its ugly head once again. And while she won a silver medal in the 800m today, many still will not give her the credit she deserves, opting to claim that she is not who she says she is once again.
Just pathetic. The IOC and the IAAF don't just flip coins to see who can compete. Clearly if she is being allowed to do so by her sport's governing body it is for good reason. And to accuse someone of throwing a race because they finished second to THE DEFENDING WORLD CHAMPION, is hilarious, not to mention what a serious accusation match fixing is.
Why would someone train for years and years to not try to win, then throw on top of that the fact that these people think that she is doing so just to keep their small minds from accusing her of things like being another gender. It makes me sick to my stomach. Next time, let's work to understand an issue before we throw hurtful language around. There's a concept. Congratulations to Semenya on her silver medal.
