If you’re up before sunrise in New York, you’re like me. A new study shows that New York is home to some of the earliest risers in the country, with many people starting their day at 5 AM or earlier.

What Is the 5AM Club?

The idea of the 5AM Club became popular after a book by Robin Sharma encouraged people to take control of their mornings by waking up early and building better habits. Some people love it but others think it sounds exhausting.

How the Study Looked at New York

The study was done by PDF Expert, which looked at thousands of Instagram posts using the hashtag #5amclub. They looked at how often the hashtag appeared in posts from different cities.

New York City Is the Earliest-Rising City in the State

New York City ranked number one in New York State and topped the national list. With 92 #5amclub posts per 10,000 Instagram posts, NYC came out on top. Between shift workers, fitness lovers, and people juggling multiple jobs, early mornings are already a normal part of life in the city that never sleeps.

Other New York Cities Are Waking Up Early Too

Several other cities across the state also ranked among the earliest risers:

Buffalo landed at number 60
Rochester came in at number 91
Yonkers followed closely at number 92

Syracuse Ranks as the Latest Riser in New York

Not every New York city is racing the sun. Syracuse ranked near the bottom of the list at number 152. With heavy snow, dark winters, and freezing mornings, fewer people are posting about 5 AM productivity.

You Don’t Have to Wake Up at 5 AM to Succeed

Even with all the hype around the 5AM Club, there’s no single right way to be productive. The key is finding a routine that works for you, not just one that looks good on Instagram. I'm awake then, how about you? To see the top 125 cities in the 5am Club, go here.
