Upstate New York City Makes It Illegal To Leave Your Dog Outside
Dog is man's best friend, there's no denying it. We domesticated wolves, and the rest is history. These fluffy little friends have been by our side for generations, and many like to believe it was a beneficial move for both of us.
Unfortunately, not all dog owners love their pets the way they love us, and one Upstate New York city is finally cracking down on it...

Protecting Your Dogs
As the days get colder and colder in Upstate New York, you're likely doing everything you can to stay indoors. Your pets are sharing that sentiment, but some still try to ignore it. Many dog owners will leave their pups outside for extended periods during the winter months, which could lead to sickness and even death.
As such, the City of Binghamton has put forward a new ordinance, known as the "City of Binghamton Dog Protection Ordinance". This sets forward guidelines for keeping your dogs safe in the winter months, as well as punishments for those who don't follow them.
Guidelines and Punishments
The ordinance states that no owner of a dog shall leave them outside for two continuous hours if the outside temperature is either lower than 32 degrees or higher than 90 degrees, or if extreme weather conditions are present.
Those who do not follow these guidelines risk a fine of up to $250 or up to 15 days in prison. Exceptions include hunting and working dogs, but even they should be taken care of so they're not exposed to the elements too long.
