Ex-MLBer Gets Emotional Discussing Upstate NY Belmont Upset [WATCH]

Jayson Werth has done quite a lot of winning during his life.

Most notably, Werth was a key part of the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies, who defeated the Tampa Bay Rays to win the World Series that season. Werth played in all five games during that series, finishing with a whopping .444 batting average.

I share all of that information with you in order to justify saying this: when Jayson Werth talks about the meaning of winning something, people should listen to what he has to say.

Currently, Werth is one of the owners of Dornoch, the horse that just won the 156th Belmont Stakes. Werth was at Saratoga Race Course this past weekend to watch the race, and cameras captured his reaction:

Though he may not have been wearing cleats or a glove, Jayson Werth certainly celebrated as if he had won the World Series again.

Werth spoke with Fox Sports about his thoughts on horse racing, and the meaning of the Belmont win:

He spoke to the media again following the victory, and compared his feelings on Saturday to his feelings while playing in the World Series with Philadelphia:

Werth played 1,583 games over his 15-year MLB career, and did so for four franchises. He finished his career with a .267 cumulative batting average, and 229 home runs. He was an All-Star during the 2009 season, and received MVP votes during his career on four separate occasions.

His horse, Dornoch, closed with 17-1 odds to win The Belmont Stakes. Only one horse in the field, Protective, had longer odds at post time.

It was the sixth consecutive year in which a different horse has won each of the Triple Crown races.
