Dwayne Killings won the press conference on Thursday, and that’s a good first start as the new head coach at the University at Albany. Killings who is very charismatic said all the right things, and now it’s about convincing the current players in the program to stay.

Killings will play to his strength  which is recruiting, and that process begins immediately. He came across confident but not cocky that he can win games, and hang more championship banners in SEFCU Arena. Killings also acknowledged the good job that former Head Coach Will Brown did with the program, which was a very classy move.

Big Board Sports's interview with Coach Killings is above where he shares his thoughts on the job and tells us about reaching out to former head coach Will Brown.

One of the things he highlighted in our interview above was changing the mentality of the program and getting the players to but into winning America East championships. He compared the mentality of Patrick Ewing's Georgetown team that fought to a Big East championship this season. He saw it in the first round of that tourney when Marquette lost to the Hoyas. They were determined and their demeanor was about winning. We will see if the Great Danes can bring that to the table beginning next season.

And if DK can bring back a lot of the starters from last year, this team can absolutely contend for an America East Title. One of the first orders of business has to be trying to get the captain to return and of course that is Antonio Rizzuto. Killings said everything to make me trust in him long term. But short term Rizzuto is a key cog in the UAlbany machine.
