WASHINGTON (AP) — Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is ready for the icy cold one President Barack Obama promised him.

With their countries facing off in a pair of Olympic hockey games this week, more than just the puck was on the line.

The leaders wagered a case of beer on each game. The bet apparently was hatched Wednesday while Obama and Harper were in Toluca, Mexico, for meetings with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto (PAYN'-yuh nee-EH'-toh).

By Thursday afternoon, the score was Harper 1, Obama 0.

The Canada women's hockey team defeated the U.S. team Thursday, in overtime, to win its fourth straight Olympic gold medal. That got Harper at least one case of beer.

The U.S. and Canada men's teams play Friday for a spot in the final.
