Report: Buffalo Sabres Regular Season Opening Game Revealed
The NHL off-season calendar starts almost immediately after the end of the Stanley Cup Final. After a quiet last week or so, the NHL calendar is about to get very busy.
The 2023 NHL Entry Draft will be held Wednesday and Thursday, from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. This is the first time that the first round has been held on a Wednesday in memory.
After the draft concludes, we will start free agency, which will be this weekend and next week. The next 7-10 days are the busiest days of the off-season in the NHL.
The Buffalo Sabres preseason was announced last week. The 2023-2024 regular season will be announced tomorrow but it appears we already know the regular season opener.
Former Sabres defenseman and current After the Whistle podcast host, Craig Rivet, reports that the Sabres will open the 2023-2024 regular season vs. the New York Rangers on October 12th.
The "vs" should mean that game will be at KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
October 12th is a Thursday, which always seems to be the night that the Sabres open up their home schedule.
They will face one of the best rosters in the Eastern Conference, led by former Sabres and Ranger center, Chris Drury, who is the Rangers general manager.
Sabres general Kevyn Adams will have to decide which free agent(s) or trade(s) to make over the next two or three weeks. The Sabres could use a top four defenseman, along with a goaltender to pair with Devon Levi.
Buckle up, Sabres fans.
