As Abby Wambach, Hope Solo and the rest of the women's Olympic team took to the field of Old Trafford on Tuesday, much of their fate had been decided.  The Americans were already slotted for quarterfinals following two wins in their first two games - their seed in said quarterfinal was all that remained a mystery.

A win would secure the defending gold medalists their group's top spot and preferential positioning in the tournament to come.  And with such on the line, the issue would remain in doubt only so long.  In the 25th minute, the Americans combined for some fancy play in the area, culminating in an Abby Wambach's goal from seven yards out.  1-0 USA.

They would dominate throughout, never relinquishing the lead and looking really looking to be stressed.  The easy win has this U.S. team on their way to Newcastle to play any one of several possible third-placed teams.  Check back here for all of your U.S. Soccer news throughout the Olympics.
