In a year where we have to wait to see the UAlbany football team take the field until Spring, we got a special treat yesterday when a former Great Dane made his NFL debut. The New York York Giants activated Defensive Back Jarren Williams from the practice squad earlier this week for special teams against the Arizona Cardinals.

Jarren Williams along with Eli Mencer and Juwan Green made up three Great Danes to sign Undrafted Free Agent deals this year. Williams's journey is interesting because he signed his undrafted FA deal with the Cardinals before finally joining the Giants and making his NFL debut against the very team that originally signed him. Williams had one special teams tackle in his debut.

It was great to see Jarren Williams on the field at football's highest level yesterday. Per the UAlbany website, Williams is the first Great Dane to play in the NFL since tight end Brian Parker who made his debut on November 1st 2015 for the Kansas City Chiefs.

WR Juwan Gree is on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad and DE/LB Eli Mencer recently had a tryout with the Houston Texans. With any luck, this is just the beginning for Williams, and Green and Mencer won't be far behind. As far as the Great Danes season, the schedule says the season is set to begin on March 6th, 2021 at New Hampshire.
