NYRA has delayed the opening of the Oklahoma Training Track at Saratoga Race Course and of course that left those in the horse racing community questioning what that means for the summer meet. I could not think of anyone better to talk to about those prospects then the best trainer going right now, Mechanicville's own Chad Brown.

Chad told use what exactly this means and how caring for the horses are working logistically throughout this pandemic. Will the meet really start on July 16th? And should the Travers really be moved? Listen to the interview with Chad above!

In fact when NYRA finalizes it’s plan for the 40 day meet in July, I hope they don’t move the Travers. This summer there should be plenty of fresh three year olds so that you can successfully run the Travers and Kentucky Derby on back to back weekends. Why change tradition at Saratoga and move the Mid-Summer Derby, the centerpiece of the Saratoga meet away from the last weekend in August, all because the Derby moved its marquee race to September 5th. Maybe NYRA sweetens the pot for the Travers? Either way, sounds like the two races can co-exist for one summer, and both can have a quality field. Just doesn’t seem right to move the Travers Stakes to late July or early August.
