The Albany High School football team is about to make serious strides. Mark it down.

The school's new turf field will be ready for game play for the Falcons' game on Oct. 17.

The field, which was approved by a district vote earlier this year, has been completed in what feels like record time.

This is huge for Albany High football and Falcon athletics as a whole. Albany is 0-4 this season but has stayed competitive in each game. Albany is 3-46 over it's last 49 games and has not won a Class AA football contest since 2007.

Albany's only wins in the last 49 came against South Glens Falls (2012), Fowler (Syracuse-area, 2013) and Lansingburgh (2014).

But this field will re-instill a sense of pride and community to the school district. That will be huge to re-ignite interest in school athletics.

Furthermore, Albany High has always had a number of great athletes that leave the district to attend some of the area's private schools like CBA, Bishop Maginn, La Salle and Green Tech.

This new football field and a better athletic program as a whole should help keep some of those kids in the district.
