“Baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet” said the old TV commercial. Baseball is as American as it gets. It was, at one time, “America’s pastime.” I think those days have passed but it is hard to celebrate a holiday around a Playstation 5 or XBox Series X, so we’ll stick with baseball. So, here are 5 cool baseball focused road trips for this upcoming 4th of July weekend. As of now, tickets are available to all of them! Play ball!

Now let’s take this series in perspective. The Yankees have played 77 games. More than half of the season is left. Yes they have lost all 6 games to the Red Sox but they play them 8 more times in July, 2 more in August and a final 3 in late September. There is time.

The MLB Commissioner is getting hammered by the players, media and the fans. He, along with the owners he works for, have lost touch with what made this sport great. Video replay challenges, guys stepping out of the box, pitchers taking almost a full minute between pitches and pitcher inspections have, in Miami Marlins manager, Don Mattingly’s words, “made the game unwatchable.” But no one in the Commissioner’s office listens.

Music is subjective to the listener or the fan. Rustin Dodd’s taste in music is most likely different enough from mine or Dan’s, that his list would be different. But one thing was clear, we all felt that music was important to sports. Dodd briefly talked about how drummers leading army battalions into battle led to marching bands at football games and brass bands at baseball games and now players have their own walk up songs.

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox haven't even played each other yet and the Yanks have already played 42 games. With the Red Sox currently on top of the American League East is one of the bigger surprises of this young season the 19 games between them and the Yankees loom large in deciding the outcome of the division. ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney cautions fans of the two teams to not get tunnel vision because there's no shortage of competition in the AL East.

The New York Yankees are off to a TERRIBLE start to the season. I mean it's so bad that I actually asked ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney if he'd rather talk about the Knicks instead of the Yankees today. He chose to stick with the Yankees and seemingly took joy in tormenting me along with help from Red Sox fan and cohost Dan Bahl. Is there hope for a turnaround any time soon? Spring Training is over and the New York Yankees are in the Bronx preparing for their Thursday afternoon season opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. I know we're not 100% back to the way things were pre-pandemic but knowing that we're getting a full season and fans will be in attendance has me feeling almost giddy. For the first time in about a year, I'm actually looking ahead and feeling (mostly) good that these games are going to happen and who knows I might even be at Yankee Stadium for them. The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox trading is something that just doesn't happen. I thought when we got past 2020 things were supposed to start making sense?! To call the Yanks and the Sox rivals is like calling the Hatfields and McCoy's disgruntled neighbors. The 'Cheers' bar built in honor of the iconic TV show by the same name is closing its doors due to issues revolving around the coronavirus pandemic.
