In the last week of August, as Major League Baseball teams prepare for the stretch run to the playoffs, managers begin to set their pitching rotations, bullpen roles and line-ups to get ready for the most crucial part of the season. Not that those responsibilities can't change in September but as a big league manager once said about the final month, "either you have the horses or you don't. There are no new ones in the barn."

2015 was a special year for the New York Mets. Prior to that, the Amazin's had not reached the World Series since 2000, when they lost in 5 games to the Yankees. Fans of the blue & orange were starved for post-season play. One player almost singlehandedly carried New York to their first National League Championship title since the turn of the century and he was nice enough to join The Drive with Charlie & Dan on Tuesday.

Sometimes baseball truly is a "Field of Dreams." Every once in a while, an unexpected, and to many an unknown, player comes along and does something great for a team in a clutch situation. Sometimes, that player has an All American dream backstory and at the same time, veteran players don't realize that player is even on their roster. That happened to the New York Mets on Sunday.

It's rare to see an athlete play for two teams in the same city, but when it comes to the New York Yankees and Mets, these ten players suited up for them both.

The excitement of getting that call that you are going to the big leagues is pretty special. When you are lucky enough to have mom, dad and the family in the stands, well, that's pretty cool too. Then add in that you play for an organization in first place, trying to hold off the defending World Champions in their ballpark and you are starting at third base. Okay, the butterflies in your stomach are the size of horses.

It’s not Jacob deGrom or Max Scherzer, but Carrasco is a significant loss to the Mets starting rotation as they try and hold off Atlanta and win the NL East.

For the past six seasons, New York Mets fans have craved to fill the void at third-base left by their Captain, David Wright. Remember Eric Campbell in 2015 starting at third? Then fan favorite but couldn't fill the hole, Wilmer Flores took the job in 2016-17. Then there was the "Toddfather" Todd Frazier in 2018-19, followed by JD Davis and Jonathan Villar. Now, Eduardo Escobar is doing his best to fill #5's shoes at the hot-corner. He's fine but the Mets need better. Fear not, Blue & Orange faithful, the next David Wright has been blasting his way through the minor leagues on his way to Queens.

Some days, sports stories will hit closer to home for our radio show, The Drive with Charlie & Dan, than others. Tuesday was one of those days. Our producer jumped into the studio announced, "The Ferry Hawks needed a pitcher for a double-header and Figgy is taking the hill!" The room broke out in cheers and applause for "our guy Figgy!"
