Capital Region travelers, outdoor fans and others will likely have a new and exciting path to enjoy in the very near future. A multi-use recreational path is being built in Upstate New York in a project called the Adirondack "Rails to Trails".

Why is the railway project so controversial? Well according to a recent article on Newyorkupstate.com

The plans took years to finalize. The Adirondack Scenic Railroad, which the Preservation Society oversees, fought to maintain the entire rail corridor, filing a lawsuit that delayed the rail-trail project for years.

More details involving the controversy were discussed in a May 2020 article from the Adriondack Explorer in which they noted that

The issue made for some strange bedfellows, as bicyclists and hikers found themselves on the same side as snowmobilers, who wanted more of the corridor to be used as a rail trail

The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
