Last week, I saw multiple mock drafts that projected Niskayuna standout Garrett Whitley to go in the first round of next month's MLB Draft.

I saw Baseball America had him at No. 13 to Tampa Bay while Baseball Prospectus had him at No. 1 to Arizona.

From Baseball Prospectus on May 11:

"1. Arizona Diamondbacks – Garrett Whitley, OF, Niskayuna HS (N.Y.): The Diamondbacks haven’t come close to finalizing this decision, as I’ve been told they’re debating names like Dansby Swanson, Dillon Tate, and even Tyler Stephenson. Right now I believe the choice is Whitley though—for a number substantially lower than the $8.6 million dollarsTHE SLOT comes with, and with three potential 60 tools, it’s not as massive a reach as some might believe."

Well, we asked Dan Cevette of the Prep Baseball Report about this assessment and he said that his team at PBR has Whitley in the top 30 nationally, but it's still hard to fathom him going No. 1.

Regardless, with Whitley and Jeff Hoffman in 2014, Northeast Baseball is getting put on the map.

Finally, as Section II playoff pairings get set to come out in a few hours, we asked Cevette about his favorites in Class AA as well as his darkhorse in AA and A.

We also asked Cevette about the Section II players being assembled for the Eastern NY roster of the "PBR New York Games" this summer, being held in Rochester.
