Geno Smith will not be attending Mark Sanchez's camp in Southern California that will include many New York Jets teammates.  This has been dubbed "Jets West," and is Sanchez's organized attempt at informal workouts, team bonding and a jump start to training camp 2013.  What do we make of this?

There is some confusion across the board.  Smith said he would go to the camp in June if invited by Sanchez.  Sanchez has said that everyone is always invited every year.  Smith has elected to stay in Florida and proceed with workouts.   It was unsure if Sanchez actually invited Smith to his alma mater Mission Viejo High School where "Jets West" is being held.  So in the end...

This is the Jets.  And it is about Jets quarterbacks.  And there is drama.  And there is speculation.  Old news, for sure.  But one thing here really stands out.  Sanchez and Smith are just saying things without anyone knowing which word is real. Anyone would include teammates and coaches and media and fans.

The assumption is that Sanchez didn't really want Smith to be there.  They are, after all, battling for the starting job.  And the other assumption is that Smith didn't want to go.  Who knows, maybe Jets brass advised Smith not to go because it would be a distraction, thus giving Smith one more reason to believe that he will be the starting QB.  Hypothetical, but possible.

Just add this to the list of Jets drama over the last few years.  And with that, head coach Rex Ryan is recovering from running with the bulls in Spain.
