Maple Hill graduate Jaime Schultz continues to perform well at the AA level, receiving the Southern League Pitcher of the Week for games spanning April 20-April 26.

Schultz, pitching for the Montgomery Biscuits (Tampa Bay Rays), struck out 17 batters in two starts this week. He allowed just one run. He tossed six no-hit innings on April 20 against Mobile.

He leads the Southern League in strikeouts thus far with 33.

Schultz possesses a mid-90s fastball with good secondary stuff. He certainly has the ability to strike hitters out at subsequent levels.

When I spoke with Schultz at the beginning of spring training, he wasn't sure if the Rays planned on using him in the bullpen to help him get to the majors quicker, but it certainly seems like Tampa is invested in him as a starter. And so far, who could blame them?

Schultz joins Brendan Harris (Queensbury-Detroit Tigers), Mike Fish (Bethlehem-Angels), Matt Gage (Broadalbin-Perth, Giants), Justin Brantley (Hudson-Indians), Tommy Kahnle (Shaker-Rockies), Jeff Hoffman (Shaker-Blue Jays), Branden Cogswell (Shen-A's), J.P. Sportman (LaSalle-A's), and Brian O'Keefe (Colonie-Cardinals) as local products playing in professional baseball.
